Grounded (Writer/Director/Editor)
As New Zealand falls under quarantine, a pilot (Sophocleous) waits for his chance to return to the skies. But conditions on the ground are getting worse .... 2006.
First (Director/Camera/Editor)
A simple question: what is your earliest memory? This documentary, shot in America in 2003 and edited in New Zealand in 2005, captures various responses. Thanks to a basic lack of comprehension of such things as "talent releases" at the time it was shot, don't expect to ever see this.
Escape From Which Mountain? (Co-Writer/Co-Editor)
Timmy's got a tough life: the bullies beat him up, his mom and his dad are on the rocks, and now his dog Nigel's been kidnapped. But by remembering the advice his Uncle Charlie gave him, he just might save the day. Secret Squirrel's 2005 effort for the 48HOURS festival, this time in the Disney category. Not as successful as our previous effort, but still had enough good moments to make the "Best of the Rest" DVD for the competition.
The Black Box (Writer/Director/Editor)
A simple rendezvous for lunch is complicated by the presence of a black box with a red button on it. What does the button do? Good question. 2005.
Freedom From Speech (Writer/Director)
Ted Carter's life seems like it has nowhere to go but up, with a depressing job and a crumbling relationship. Then he loses his voice, and sure enough .... 2004.
Commercial Reel (Director/Editor)
Secret Squirrel teamed up for a series of fake commercials. I directed "Zom-B-Gone", which urged people to buy hallowed ground to avoid having their children being eaten by zombies, and edited the four "Crazy Tony" commercials, which are still my favorite thing I've ever done. Amazing what you can do in a half-day in a garage and three hours in an edit suite with willful disregard for concepts like "motion continuity" and "good taste". 2004.
Burns & McCloud: Street Sense (Co-Writer/Editor/Voice Actor)
In addition to co-writing this film, I edited the film in 27 hours as part of the 2004 Auckland 48HOURS competition. It won 2nd place, and has screened on C4. Shot on DVCAM, edited on Avid Xpress Pro.
Amazing True Facts About Japan (And A Few Outrageous Lies) (Director/Camera/Editor)
All true footage, some real stories and some not. What can you believe when the truth is outlandish as any lie you can imagine? Shot in 2002, completed in 2003.
I Have Always Been Here Before (Writer/Director/Camera/Editor)
Dennis searches for the explanation to his deja vu experience. But the answers he's looking for are far more complicated than he imagines. A 15-minute short film shot in Portland in 2002.
Lightwritten/Lightwriting (Director/Camera/Editor)
Shot on 16mm, this short film uses Christmas lights and the reflective surfaces of CDs to create abstract textures. LIGHTWRITING is the initial source edited in camera, LIGHTWRITTEN is a re-textured version overlaid on itself several times and staggered in time. Shot in 2001, edited in 2002.
Passage To All Points (Director/Camera/Editor)
A music video for Astrogenic Hallucinauting. Ambient music, ambient visuals. Shot on a rare day - a freeze in Houston. Shot in 1997.
